Why grow amla near Indore?

Amla (Phyllanthus emblica, Indian gooseberry) is well suited to the central Indian climate.   • Amla has a long harvest window; fruits are typically ready to pick when they reach full size and characteristic colour/firmness for the variety.
  • Pick by hand to avoid bruising. For processing markets, slightly underripe fruit may be acceptable; for fresh markets, ensure uniform ripeness and clean fruit.
  • Post-harvest: cool, shaded storage and prompt transport preserve quality. For longer storage or processing, consider on-farm sorting, grading and immediate processing into value-added products (powder, pickles, preserves) to reduce transport costs and losses.
