Why consider amla in Mizoram
Amla (Indian gooseberry, Phyllanthus emblica) is a hardy, long-lived fruit tree valued for its fruit and medicinal uses. In Mizoram it can be a good fit on well-drained terraces, gentle slopes and homestead gardens where waterlogging is avoided. Amla tolerates a range of soils and seasonal moisture, but success depends on matching planting and management to the state’s heavy monsoon and shorter dry season.

- Harvest method: Handpick using ladders or poles fitted with soft catch baskets to avoid bruising. Fruit-bagging on tree may reduce pests and improve fruit quality where labour permits.
