Why grow proso millet (cheena) in Goa?
Proso millet (Panicum miliaceum), locally called cheena, is a short-duration, drought-tolerant cereal suited to light soils and late-season plantings. In Goa it fits into small-holder systems as a catch crop after paddy, in rainfed uplands, or as a relay crop in drier zones.
