In the Indus Valley region, with its dry seasons and variable rainfall, shea can be a low-input perennial option where other tree crops struggle — provided you match site, water and management to the species’ needs. This guide focuses on practical steps growers can use on small to medium holdings.

Site selection and climate

  • Climate: Shea tolerates hot, dry conditions and seasonal rainfall. It is not frost-tolerant — avoid low-lying frost pockets.
