Best sowing windows and climate considerations

  • Rabi/late Kharif sowings: raise nursery from September–November and transplant from October through January depending on local microclimate.

  • Processors and cold-chain aggregators — look for processors that accept broccoli for frozen or ready-to-eat lines.
  • Value addition: packing in retail-ready trays or offering sorted sizes can increase returns for market-sensitive buyers.

Practical marketing tips:

  • Stagger plantings every 10–15 days to supply buyers steadily rather than one large, hard-to-sell batch.
  • Build relationships with a few regular buyers and agree on quality and delivery schedules in advance.
  • Keep records of costs and prices per lot so you know which outlets give the best net return.

Smallholder considerations and risk reduction

  • Start small to build experience. Grow trial plots to test varieties and check market acceptance locally.
