Nutrient management

Pest and disease management

Keep it practical: monitor plants, remove affected material, and favour cultural and biological controls.

  • Common pests: aphids, whitefly, mealybugs. Action: spray neem oil or soap solutions early; encourage predators (ladybugs, lacewings).
  • Diseases: leaf spot and powdery mildew can occur, especially under humidity and poor air circulation. Use tolerant varieties, space plants for airflow, remove infected leaves, and avoid overhead irrigation in evening.
  • Use botanical sprays (neem, garlic) and biocontrols where possible. Reserve chemical controls for severe outbreaks and follow label directions strictly.

Pruning, harvesting and crop cycles
