Why grow cassava in Mizoram?
Cassava (tapioca) is well suited to Mizoram’s climate: it tolerates acidic soils, performs under irregular rainfall and fits small-holder, sloped land when managed properly. It can be grown as a food security crop, for feeding livestock or for sale as fresh roots, chips or processed products.
Site selection and land preparation
Choose a site with good drainage. Cassava does not tolerate waterlogging, especially on heavy clay. In Mizoram’s undulating terrain prefer gentle slopes with terraces or contours to limit erosion. Avoid poorly drained valley bottoms unless improved drainage is provided.
