Cashew is a long‑term tree crop; planning for soil, water and labour availability is essential before planting.

Varieties to consider

Choose varieties suited to Gujarat conditions and available as quality grafts or true-to-type seedlings from a trusted nursery. Varieties commonly used in western India include:

  • Vengurla series (Vengurla‑1, Vengurla‑4): well adapted to coastal and interior dry conditions, known for regular bearing and good kernel recovery.
  • BPP hybrids (examples like BPP‑8): bred for higher yields and nut quality; check local availability and rootstock compatibility.
  • Local/selection material: superior local seedlings selected from productive trees often perform well; use only healthy, disease-free material.
