Climate and soil requirements

Mulberry tolerates a wide temperature range but prefers warm conditions for good fruit set and growth. Solapur’s hot summers and mild winters are suitable if you manage water and protect young plants from extreme heat during establishment.

  • Temperature: growth is best in 20–35°C range; young plants need shade or extra water during heat waves.
  • Rainfall & irrigation: natural rainfall is erratic in Solapur. Mulberry needs supplemental irrigation—especially in the first 2–3 years and during fruiting.

Mulberry has a moderate nutrient demand. Start with organic matter and supplement with balanced NPK based on tree age and vigour.

  • At planting: incorporate 10–12 kg well-rotted FYM or compost per pit.
  • Young trees: apply split doses of nitrogen to encourage leafy growth, combined with single applications of phosphorus and potassium annually. Observe tree vigour and adjust dose.
