Why lavender in Rayalaseema?

Rayalaseema’s hot, dry climate and well‑drained soils can suit lavender if you match varieties and manage water carefully. Lavender is drought‑tolerant once established, fetches premiums for essential oil and dried flowers, and fits well into small acreages or as an intercropping option on marginal lands.

Site selection and soil

Choose a site with full sun (6–8 hours/day) and excellent drainage. Lavender will not tolerate waterlogged soils. Prefer slightly alkaline to neutral pH (6.5–8.0). Soils with good gravelly or sandy loam texture are ideal; heavy clays need raised beds or significant organic matter and sand to improve drainage.

Lavender takes 1–2 years to reach commercial production—plan cash flow accordingly.
