Why jackfruit in Arunachal Pradesh?

Arunachal Pradesh offers hills, river valleys and a humid, warm climate in many pockets—conditions that suit jackfruit when you select the right site and manage trees for wind and water. Jackfruit fits smallholder systems, agroforestry and roadside orchards where fruit can be sold fresh or processed locally.

Site selection and climate considerations

  • Choose lower slopes, terraces or valley edges with protection from strong, cold winds; young trees are sensitive to wind and frost.
  • Jackfruit prefers humid tropical to subtropical climates. In Arunachal, the crop does well in areas that do not experience prolonged cold.
  • Select sites with good sunlight—full sun gives better flowering and fruiting; partial shade reduces yield.
  • Avoid waterlogged locations and very shallow soils. Good surface drainage is essential to prevent root rot.

Soil type and preparation
