Why grow shikakai in Uttar Pradesh?

Shikakai (commonly referred to for species in the Acacia/Senegalia group used as a natural cleansing herb) is well suited to many parts of Uttar Pradesh because it tolerates poor soils, drought periods and can be grown on marginal lands. It has a steady demand from herbal, cosmetic and traditional markets and can be integrated into smallholding systems as a low-input shrub/tree crop.
