Why cultivate mace (javitri) here?
Mace is the red aril that surrounds the nutmeg seed and fetches a premium in spice markets. The Cauvery Basin’s humid tropical climate, fairly consistent rainfall and warm temperatures suit Myristica fragrans when you manage soil drainage, shade and sanitation. Mace is best grown as an understorey tree in mixed orchards or coffee/cocoa systems, where shade and moisture buffers are available.
