Varieties and plant material

There are two frequently grown forms: the stoloniferous wetland form (Bacopa monnieri) and the erect dryland types (Bacopa diffusa or closely related chemotypes). For Rayalaseema choose:

  • stoloniferous types for raised beds with frequent irrigation—better leaf mass and widely used in herbal markets
  • more erect/drought-tolerant types when water is limited—lower leaf yield but less prone to rot

Brahmi can fit as an intercrop or a full-bed crop. Smallholders report better returns when supplying consistent quality to processors or herbal traders rather than selling loose leaf to local markets. Key success factors:
