Why kodo millet in the Thar?

Kodo millet (Paspalum scrobiculatum / sometimes referred under local names) is a resilient cereal suited to low-rainfall, sandy soils. In the Thar Desert it fits mixed systems: it needs little water, tolerates poor soil fertility and can provide fodder, grain for household food security and a marketable crop when managed for quality.
