Why neem fits Coastal Andhra
Neem is a hardy native tree well suited to the semi-arid and coastal plains of Andhra. Irrigation and salinity management
- Young trees need regular watering for the first 12–18 months. Use drip or basin irrigation—avoid prolonged saturation.
- For sites with brackish water, use good-quality freshwater for establishment whenever possible. After establishment, mature neem tolerates moderate salinity better.
- Mulch around the base (5–10 cm of organic mulch) to conserve moisture, suppress weeds and reduce salt accumulation at the root zone.
- Install simple drainage channels in low fields to carry away heavy rains and prevent root suffocation from waterlogging.
