Why grow methi in Tamil Nadu?
Methi (fenugreek) is a short-duration, high-value crop used either as a fresh leaf vegetable or for seed spice. It fits well into smallholder rotations, responds quickly to good management and can give multiple cuttings for leaf markets or a single crop for seed. In Tamil Nadu it performs best in the cooler, drier months but can be grown year-round with irrigation and attention to pests.
Choose the right type
Decide early whether you are growing for leaves (green market/kurumani/kasuri style) or for seed.
