Why grow gerbera in Tamil Nadu?

Climate and site selection

Gerbera prefers cool days and mild nights, with optimal growth at 18–24°C day and 12–18°C night. In Tamil Nadu, protected cultivation (shade-net houses, polyhouses) is advisable to moderate high temperatures and strong sunlight, particularly in coastal and plains areas. Select a site with:

  • Good drainage and gentle slope to avoid waterlogging.
  • Easy access to filtered irrigation water and electricity (for fans/evaporative cooling in protected structures).
