Climate, soil and site selection

Choose a site with full sun and good air movement. Tripura’s heavy monsoon rains mean waterlogging is the main hazard; select raised, well-drained beds or gentle slopes to avoid standing water. Ideal soil is a light to medium textured loam with good organic matter and pH near neutral (about 6.0–7.5).

  • Avoid low-lying, poorly drained fields during the monsoon.
