Why grow spinach in Maharashtra?

Choose the right season

In Maharashtra, growers succeed with two main windows:

  • Zaid/late winter (Feb–Apr): Use short-duration varieties and provide shade or frequent irrigation to reduce bolting in heat.

  • After establishment, irrigate frequently with moderate quantities rather than infrequent heavy applications. In warm months this can be every 2–3 days depending on soil and weather.
  • Avoid wet foliage for prolonged periods to reduce fungal risk. Where available, use drip irrigation to save water and keep foliage drier.

Weed, pest and disease management

Spinach grows fast but young seedlings are vulnerable. Integrated measures work best:
