Why grow goji berry in Nagaland?

  • Postharvest: Cool the fruit promptly if storing fresh; for small-scale drying, spread thinly in shaded, well-ventilated areas or use a solar dryer to preserve colour and quality.
  • Processing options: fresh sale, drying for herbal markets, or value-added products such as jams and juices—choose based on market access and scale.

Marketing and economics

Market channels include local fresh markets, organic niche buyers, health-food processors and tourist-oriented sales in Nagaland. Important points:

  • Start small and test markets—dried goji has longer shelf life and wider market reach but needs consistent quality.
  • Branding based on local origin, organic or sustainable management can attract premium buyers, but requires consistent production systems and certifications if claiming organic.
  • Cooperative approaches with neighbouring growers can reduce marketing costs and aggregate supply for processors.

Practical tips for Nagaland growers

  • Match variety to microclimate: trial a few varieties on a small plot before scaling up.
