Basil

In DWC the crop-critical signal is dissolved oxygen, not EC, and this is the one place in the module where that is literally true: EC out of band for a day costs growth, oxygen out of band for a night costs the crop. The air pump relay reading "on" proves nothing — a clogged stone and a perished diaphragm look identical from the relay. Measure the oxygen.

Species
Ocimum basilicum
System
DWC — deep water culture
Version
1.0.0
Provenance
Deep water culture practice for culinary basil, with the reservoir temperature band set for an unconditioned Indian room rather than a climate-controlled one.

What kills this system: Dissolved oxygen trend, plus current sensing on the air pump. A closed relay is not evidence of aeration.

Stage Days pH EC mS/cm Water °C DO mg/L Light
Establishment 14 5.6 – 6.4 0.90 – 1.30 22.0 7.0 16h
Basil likes it warmer than lettuce and will sulk below 18 °C air. The reservoir still has to stay under 24.
Cut and come again 45 5.6 – 6.5 1.40 – 1.90 22.0 7.0 16h
Harvest above a node pair and the plant carries on for months. Let it flower and the leaf goes bitter and the plant stops — the photoperiod above is deliberately short of what triggers flowering in most Genovese lines.

Every band on this site is a literature-derived starting point. None of them has been measured on your water, your cultivar or your polyhouse, and the variable that decides most of it — the alkalinity of what comes out of your borewell — is one this page cannot know. Validate on a small block before you commit a season.
