Sunflower is a oilseed crop, grown in the rabi · zaid season. Sow it in Oct–Nov, Jan–Feb and expect to harvest in 90–110 days. It wants a pH of 6.5–8.0 (on the alkaline side) and 20–28°C. Plant at 60 × 30 cm, allowing 8–10 kg of seed per hectare. A good crop returns around 1.5–2 t. Watch for head borer, necrosis, downy mildew.
